Uniprint 9.0 R2 and 9.1 Service Packs: Best Practices
Backing up for Uniprint 9.0 R2 and 9.1 Service Packs
It's important to back up your current Pharos Uniprint servers before applying a Service Pack. These Service Packs contains updates for several Pharos components, bug fixes, and new features, all delivered in a single package. Because these service packs includes updates to the Pharos Database and the Pharos Database Service, we strongly recommended that you create a backup of the following Pharos components, and verify that your backup is usable. If you are using virtual infrastructure, we also recommend taking a snapshot of your virtual machines before proceeding with Service Pack installation.
What to back up
- Pharos database
- Snapshot servers
Pharos Database backup
For most Uniprint systems, the installation process creates a SQL Job which runs every night by default and creates a backup of the Pharos database. Even with this automatic backup process, we strongly recommended that you create a full backup of the Pharos database immediately prior to installing this Service Pack. Even though Pharos does not anticipate any problems, if an issue arises during the update process, having a current FULL backup of the database will allow for a faster recovery.

Snapshot server instances
The snapshot feature is most useful when you want to preserve the state of the virtual machine so that you can return back to the same state repeatedly. For more information, please refer to: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd851843.aspx.
