Installing Popup Clients on Windows

The Popup Client is installed using Pharos install packages. Install packages automate the process of setting up Pharos Popups on workstations. Installing Popup Clients involves creating one or more install packages and deploying them on the workstations.

As well as installing the Uniprint client application(s), they set up one or more Pharos Queues as printers on the workstation. Each install package can also include:

  • An uninstaller to allow the end user to remove the package at any time.
  • An updater service that automatically connects to the Uniprint server to check for updates and changes. If an update is detected, the new files are downloaded and applied.

Standard install packages are self-contained and can be simply copied and run on each workstation. “Lite” versions of the install packages are also available, which are smaller executables that detect the operating system and any existing components, and then download only those components that are needed.

Once the Popup Client is installed, users can easily submit print jobs to the Uniprint server. In addition, the system can be configured to request additional information from the user each time they print.

Requirements

  • Popup Client software can be installed on any computer running the following platforms:
    • Windows Server 2022
    • Windows Server 2019
    • Windows Server 2016
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Windows Vista Business Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Ultimate Edition
    • Windows 7 Home Basic Edition, Home Premium Edition, Business Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Ultimate Edition
    • Windows 8 Basic, Pro, and Enterprise Editions
    • Windows 8.1
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 11
  • Make sure that all Queues are using the correct drivers.
  • If you plan to use "Lite" packages or the "Automatic Update" feature, you must specify the Package Download and Update Location in the Packages > Packages Global Settings context. The Package Download and Update Location is the URL of the web site that modules will be downloaded from.

Installation

To install the Popup Client application:
  1. Create an install package making sure that the package contains the Pharos Popup Client Module and the Queues you want users to be able to send jobs to. To create an install package, see Creating Install Packages.
  2. Distribute install packages by whatever means you prefer. In situations where users install packages on their own PCs, the packages should be made available on a web site or network share. For more information about how to distribute install packages, see Deploying Install Packages in the Help.
  3. Run the install packages on client PCs to install the Popup Client and any necessary printers.

Once the Popup Client is installed, Popup questions appear  to users any time they print a job to a Popups printer.

Uninstalling Popup Client

The uninstaller supports the silent uninstall option for the Popup client. At a command prompt in the Pharos\Bin folder, run the following command on the Popup client machine.

Uninst.exe /s Popups
