About Gateways

Pharos Gateways are programs that allow the Pharos system to access and make use of certain other systems, providing a wider range of services to users and a more seamless overall environment.

Pharos products can interact with two main types of systems: billing systems (online funds) and authentication systems (user identification and authorization).

How a Gateway is called

Pharos Gateways are called by a Plug-in on a Pharos Server (e.g. a Print Server or SignUp Server). The Pharos Billing Plug-in handles calls to online billing gateways, while the Pharos Logon Plug-in handles calls to online authentication gateways.

When a billing/logon event to an online billing/authentication service is generated:

  1. A billing or logon request is required.
  2. All details are passed to the appropriate Plug-in.
  3. A connection is made to the relevant Gateway.
  4. The gateway translates the Pharos request into the language of the online service, translates the response, and returns it.
