About Management Zones

A Management Zone allows you to group objects so that you can set permissions on them all at once rather than on each individual object. Each object (e.g. Queues, Devices, Release Stations) in Uniprint must belong to a Management Zone, which is automatically assigned when the object is created.

When Permissions were introduced in Uniprint 8.2, objects were managed primarily at a server level. Management Zones allow for finer grained access controls on objects in Pharos Administrator. It enables you to distribute tasks to roles without giving full access to the Print Server.

Objects in a Zone do not have to be from the same Print Server; it is possible to group objects from different Print Servers. This allows you to easily delegate administrative duties, for example, to different departments (e.g. to manage their own devices) even when they are sharing the same server resource.

In the following figure, "Sample Role" has Full Control permission over "NZ Zone" and has no permission on both the "Default" and "US" zones. This means that a user assigned the "Sample Role" will be able to delete, read, or update objects (e.g. Devices, Queues, Print Groups) only in the NZ Zone, but not objects in either of the "Default" or "US" zones.
