Changing Environment Properties

The following properties can be configured for each Environment listed in Pharos Administrator.

General Details

Property Description
Name The Environment name uniquely identifies an Environment in the Pharos system.
Description A free-form text description of this Environment, used only in Pharos Administrator
Network Logon

The network or domain account name used for logging on users using this Environment if "Common Guest Account" is selected as the LAN Logons option at SignUp > SignUp Global Settings > Reservations. It must be a valid account on the network that users will be logging on to.

Starting with 9.1 Revision 374, you can now specify the domain the SignUp Client uses when using the Common Guest Accounts. There are two options to do this.

  • Specify the domain the for the Network Logon Property to a value of the form domain\username. The part of this value before the "\" is then treated as the domain name to use for logging onto Windows.
  • Specify the domain to a value of the form \username. This causes the SignUp Client to log on to Windows using an account in whatever is the computer's primary domain, notwithstanding that part of the Logon ID that the user typed is interpreted as a domain name.

The form "username@domain" is not supported for this property.

If a policy or profile is to be used with this Environment, this is the account that it should be associated with. This property is disabled if "LAN Accounts only" is selected.

The logon name you enter here will be visible to users on certain operating systems. Environments should use an account with a generic name like "Guest" or "Patron".

Network Password

The password of the network or domain account associated with the Network Logon.

This property is disabled if "LAN Accounts only" is selected as the LAN Logons option at SignUp > SignUp Global Settings > Reservations tab.

Platform Startup Files

This property only applies when using a Custom Start-up file. Custom Start-up files are files that are run whenever a user logs on with this Environment, and serve as an optional alternative to the use of policies and profiles.

Contact your network administrator or support staff for help in creating a Custom Start-up file. If necessary, contact your Authorized Pharos Reseller for assistance.

It is possible that the start-up file will not be available when a user logs on. How the system behaves in this case depends on the Computer Type of the Computer being logged on to. The Requires Custom Start-up file property at SignUp > Branches > [selected Branch] > Computer Types determines behavior in this situation.
