Banks Installed with Pharos

Pharos is installed with a specific Bank for each card reader and logon method. Each of these Banks is named after the DLL that controls the authentication/logon method. For example, the Debitek Chip card reader uses DebitekChip.dll and requires the Debitek Chip Bank.

The MagTek and MRS swipe card readers both use generic DLLs which are named for the logon process rather than for the card reader i.e. IDKeyWdg.dll and IDSerial.dll respectively.

In addition to these specific Banks, four additional Banks are installed:

Default Bank

The Default Bank is inserted when Pharos is installed. This is an example bank that can be modified to suit the requirements of the organization.

Default Banks must be chosen for each Print and SignUp Service. These Banks are used for billing when the user has bypassed a Pharos Station that normally is responsible for instructing the billing process. Direct printing and the use of PCs that do not require Reservation are situations where users do not require a Pharos Station. Therefore, the services use the billing instructions in their Default Banks. Both services may use the same Bank, which may be the one automatically installed.

Mouse Move or Key Click Bank

The Mouse Move or Key Click Bank is inserted when Pharos is installed. This Bank comes configured to allow users to log on simply by moving the mouse or pressing any key. Choose this Bank for any Pharos Stations that you want to operate in a non-authenticated environment where users are anonymous, meaning that jobs are released without the user being charged, whether or not they have a related cost. A non-authenticated environment is suitable in two situations:

  • During the initial install/setup period, to test that the printing system is working correctly without having to deal with charging at the same time.
  • Any system where the release of print jobs must be controlled, but where charging is not an issue, e.g. where only job tracking is desired.

Other banks can be configured to use this logon method, by selecting "Mouse Move or Key Click" as their Source of Identification.

Pharos Remote Bank

The Pharos Remote Bank is a special purpose Bank, automatically installed and automatically used. Pharos Remote uses this Bank for debiting printing charges and reservation related charges originating at those Stations. The Pharos Remote Bank charges only to an internal Pharos account or to an online billing system. The default install is of the internal account bank. Modify this bank in order to use Pharos Remote with a Gateway.

AD LDAP  Bank

The AD LDAP Logon Bank checks the user’s password against a Windows Active Directory domain instead of checking it against the Pharos Database. The Pharos Active Directory LDAP Logon Plug-in is used for this. This Plug-in is named adldaplogon.exe, and is located in the directory Program Files\Pharos\bin\ (also on the Pharos disk image at tools\plugins\ADLDAP\).
